Jim Poe To Speak At

December Convention

James “Jim” Poe, Deputy Commissioner—Special Tax and Support Administration, came to the Indiana Department of Revenue in 1976.  Prior to taking on the responsibility of deputy commissioner of Special Tax and Administration, Jim served as the administrator of the Department’s Motor Carrier Services division.  Jim took on his first leadership role with the Department as a supervisor in the corporate-income tax section.  From 1984 through 1996, Jim continued to grow in leadership responsibilities as an administrator in the Special-Tax division and the returns processing center, respectively.

In December 2005, Jim was recognized as the first person to receive the Richard Reeves IRP Leadership Award for his dedication to fair and equitable approach to motor carrier taxation and registration.  He also received the Penske Award for Dedication to Service, on behalf of the Motor Carrier Services division, in January 2006.  In February 2006, Jim also was honored with one of the first Governor’s Public Service Achievement Awards by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels.

Jim graduated from Indiana State University with his bachelor’s in business in 1972.

Future Leaders Committee

We’re looking for a few good men and women to step up and get more involved with this association. Many of you may recall the Future Leaders Committee in the past, and we have actively pursued applicants for the last year.

The committee is for any man or woman holding a position in an IHM&W member company, who is 45 years of age or younger. You would be invited to attend all Board meetings as a non-voting member. There are approximately eight (8) Board meetings annually, held in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Board would welcome your input in its’ decision making process. If you hold a vested interest in the member company you are employed by, that would be very desirable, but not a requirement. Many past “Future Leaders” have gone on to serve on the Board of Directors.

If you are interested in becoming an IHM&W “Future Leader”, go to the IHM&W website at www.ihmw.org. You can download an application from the “Membership Info” page. You will be required to fill out a bio and submit a picture for publication.

AMSA Opens Online Career Center
For Job Seekers and Employers

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — AMSA today opened an online Career Center, a new resource to help connect employers and job seekers in the moving and storage industry.

Those looking for work may search job openings by category or by state/province, save them for later review, and post a resume (confidentially, if desired) for employers to see. Although anyone can visit the center and browse, job seekers who register may have vacancies that meet their criteria automatically e-mailed to them daily.

Employers, who post jobs for a small fee, may also set up a daily e-mail alert of candidates who meet their specific needs; and to stand out among other firms, they have the option to become a “featured employer” through such listing enhancements as a banner, a unique company profile page and highlighted search results.

The goal of the Career Center is not only to help bring qualified individuals into the moving and storage industry, but also to provide information about employment opportunities in the field and the training and/or certification needed.

“Visitors can now get details on possible career paths and theskills they’d need for them,” according to AMSA President and CEO Linda Bauer Darr. “AMSA has brought it together—from job listings to the training to move ahead in our industry.”

Employers can visit http://careers.promover.org to find special offers and pricing during the Career Center’s launch. For more information, contact AMSA Senior Vice President of Programs, Services and Business Development Pat Jennings at (703) 706-4983 or pjennings@moving.org.

Online Registration Opens for 2009 Education Conference & Expo
AMSA Focuses on High-Quality Education at an Affordable Price

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Online registration is now open for AMSA’s 2009 Education Conference & Expo, set for Feb. 8-11 in Dallas, Texas.

With the theme, “New Frontiers, New Opportunities,” the conference will be highlighted by professional education sessions to help attendees enhance their bottom line in a challenging economy by cutting costs, improving processes and expanding thorough diversification.

AMSA will once again team up with the General Services Administration’s Household Goods and Freight Forum to bring government move managers together with their private-sector counterparts—another avenue for more business and partnerships.

The conference will also feature a mix of leadership sessions and practical workshops on how to exceed customer expectations, save money, reduce waste and squeeze out inefficiencies—and a Supplier Expo and great networking opportunities. Suppliers can also select their booth online for the first time.

“We’re making it easy for movers and suppliers to invest in education and strategies to sustain and grow their businesses, even in the face of this economic turndown,” said AMSA President and CEO Linda Bauer Darr.

For more information, or to register online, please visit AMSA’s Web site at:
